District Seeks Residents & Experts to Join New Commission on District’s Waterways
WASHINGTON, DC, October 2, 2024 —The District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is excited to announce the creation of the Office of District Waterways Management (ODWM). To guide this new office, ODWM is seeking visionary leaders to on its advisory commission.
This pivotal commission will spearhead the development of a strategic vision for the District’s waterways and surrounding lands. With a diverse team of 14 voting members—7 appointed by Mayor Muriel Bowser and 7 by the D.C. Council— and support from key District government leaders and federal agency representatives serving as non-voting members, the Commission aims to encompass a wide range of professional and personal perspectives. Residents and local professionals who are passionate about the future of the District’s waterways are encouraged to apply.
Mayoral Appointments: Mayor Bowser seeks energetic community members with relevant experience in public safety, environmental stewardship, economic development or tourism, maritime management or policy, maritime transportation, and athletics and recreation. Strong preference for District residents, with representation from across the District. Council Appointments: The Chairman of the Council seeks two (2) ANC Commissioners (one east of the Anacostia, one west of the Anacostia); two (2) Business Improvement District (BID) representatives (one east of the Anacostia, one west of the Anacostia); two (2) marina/yacht club representatives; an individual with expertise or interest in waterway management. When to apply: Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. The first round of applications will be reviewed starting October 15, 2024.
